City railway infrastructure projects costing Rmb49bn have been approved by China’s National Development and Reform Commission. The two projects are in Fuzhou, Fujian province, and Urumqi, Xinjiang Uyghur autonomous region.
China City Railway Transportation Association said that, by 2020, a total of 40 Chinese cities will have, or will be building, city railways. They will total 7,000km in length, 4.3 times the current level.
