Nanjing oil spill emergency warehouse wins approval

19 December 2012
Nanjing Ship Oil Spill Emergency Equipment Warehouse passed its final inspection on 13 December and is expected to start operation in the new year. This is part of a national plan to establish 13 such warehouses along the 2,800km navigable length of the Yangtze trunkline.

In the Jiangsu section, the busiest of the river, there will be three warehouses: one each in Nanjing, Zhangjiagang and Taicang. The warehouses will contain space for drying and training, a cleaning pool, and an equipment storage facility. Major equipment will include spill booms, recycling machinery, emergency unloading equipment, storage and transport facilities for waste oil, surveillance equipment and other support facilities.

In 2011, the dangerous cargo volume in Jiangsu waters totalled 108m tons, 54 per cent of which was oil.
