Nanjing issues blueprint for developing waterways

Nanjing city government issued a blueprint last week for developing waterway transport. According to the blueprint, between 2013 and 2015, the local government will set aside a special fund totalling no less than Rmb100m a year for the development of water transport. The fund will be spent on dredging and improving the capabilities of the city’s terminals.

By 2015, the total length of navigable Grade 4 waterway within the city area will reach 268km (including 168km on the Yangtze) and the annual handling capacity of the terminals will reach 300m tons, with an expected total cargo volume of 200m tons. By 2020, the total length of navigable Grade 4 waterway will reach 320km (including 168km on the Yangtze) and the annual handling capacity of the ports will be 500m, with a total cargo volume expected to stand at 320m tons.
