30 January 2013
Chongqing municipality achieved an economic growth rate of 13.6% in 2012, despite the fallout from the scandal of former party secretary Bo Xilai. The municipal government pledged to maintain steady economic and social development in 2013, while at the same time prioritising law-abiding governance. The government’s work report stated that “no organisation or individual has the privilege to overstep the constitution and the law”.

Last year, the authorities in Chongqing investigated 878 people accused of dereliction of duty, of whom 461 were accused of taking brides worth at least Rmb100,000, prosecutor Yu Min told China News Service. More than 90 officials in Chongqing have been removed from their posts for dereliction of duty over the past five years, the report added.
