Logistics costs rise 11.4% in 2012

China’s total logistics expense grew 11.4 per cent year-on-year to Rmb9,400bn in 2012, according to the National Development and Reform Commission.

Out of this total, Rmb4,900bn was transportation cost, up 10.7 per cent, and Rmb3,300bn was storage cost, an increase of 11.9 per cent. The remaining Rmb1,200bn was management cost, 13.1 per cent higher than in the previous year.

The value of goods transported by the logistics industry grew 9.8 per cent over the year to Rmb177,300bn in 2012. The growth rate was 2.5 percentage points lower than that in 2011.

China’s fixed-asset investment in the logistics industry grew 23.9 per cent year-on-year to Rmb4,000bn last year, including Rmb2,600bn in the transportation sector.
