Bonded zone approved in Nantong

20 March 2013
The State Council has approved the upgrade of Nantong Export Processing Zone to a national comprehensive bonded zone, reported China Daily.

The zone has a planned area of 5.3 sq km, almost twice the size of its predecessor in Nantong Economic and Technological Development Area, said local officials.

The zone is composed of two parks. Park A is located in the former export-processing zone while Park B is adjacent to a planned container terminal with an annual handling capacity of 2m TEU.

In addition to expanding the size of the original park, the new zone is expected to take on more functions, such as port operations, exhibitions and foreign trade, local officials said.

Zhang Junfeng, a procurement manager at Nantong Hongbo Machinery, was quoted as saying that the new function will benefit his company that manufactures vessel components. Until now, the company was often forced to ship some of its products to the port city of Zhangjiagang in southeastern Jiangsu.
