Wuhan finalises plan for airport metro line

20 March 2013
A plan to build Wuhan’s airport metro line has at last been finalised, according to Wuhan Reform and Development Commission. The 19.5km north-south line that links the city centre to the airport will have seven stations, four of which will be located in Panlong county, an area that the local government is keen to develop.

At Jintan station, the airport metro line will be connected with No.2 metro line, which leads to Hankou railway station; at Hongtu Avenue station, passengers will be able to change from the airport line to the No.3 or No.8 metro lines, the former running under the riverbed of the Hanjiang River, the largest tributary of the Yangtze, and the latter under the Yangtze near Wuhan No.2 Yangtze Bridge.

Construction of the No.3 line is progressing, while bidding on the No.8 line has started and work should start within the year. According to the government plan, the airport line is also scheduled to start construction by the end of 2013 and is expected to be completed by 2015.
