Government will continue to set railway prices, says official

27 March 2013
The Chinese government will continue to set railway rates for freight and passenger transport, according to a senior official from the National Development and Reform Commission.

Cao Changqing, head of the NDRC’s price department, said that the country will continue to implement government-set or government-guided prices for railways despite the fact that China Railway Corporation took over the commercial functions of the former Ministry of Railways on 17 March.

Mr Cao stated that the railway sector is a key basic industry and that the state would remain cautious about making any price adjustments.
