Zhangjiagang sees rapid growth in chrysanthemum exports

27 March 2013
Reports from Zhangjiagang Inspection and Quarantine Bureau say that they have just inspected and approved of 43,000 chrysanthemums bound for Japan. Indeed, Jiangsu Junma Agricultural Science and Technology Co has exported 300,000 chrysanthemums to Japan so far this year, up 134 per cent over the same period last year.

The company said modern technology has allowed it to improve production and pest control, while a stable workforce has also ensured that its experience in growing, caring and packaging the flowers has been retained. Another contributing factor to strong overseas sales is the relative proximity of Zhangjiagang port to major importers such as Japan and Korea, compared with other areas in China such as Yunnan and Hainan, where chrysanthemums are also grown in large scale. In Zhangjiagang, chrysanthemums are shipped in refrigerated containers.
