CSRC promotes integrated transport hubs

10 April 2013
China’s State Reform and Development Commission issued a directive on 26 March, asking local governments to build and promote integrated transport hubs.

For freight transport, the directive says, it is important to coordinate the layout of industrial and logistics parks to allow a ‘seamless connection’ between one mode of transport and another. The functions of integrated transport hubs will be re-enhanced by improving convenience, compatibility and security, which ultimately leads to a reduction in logistics costs, it says.

The directive singled out the development of ports, saying that there needs to be a substantial increase in freight collection and distribution via railway, particularly in inland river ports. Container ports need to be supported and integrated by rail and expressways and ro-ro terminals should have compatible highways next to them.
