Transport growth levels fall year-on-year

China’s overall passenger and cargo transport volume has maintained steady growth in the first two months of the year, according to Ministry of Transport data reported by Xinhua, but year-on-year growth is slightly down.

Freight volume increased 10.9 per cent to 5.02bn tonnes with the growth falling 2.3 per cent.

Highway cargo turnover increased 12.4 per cent to 907.6bn tonnes per kilometre with the growth falling 2 per cent.

Waterway cargo volume increased 9.8 per cent to 710m tonnes; turnover increased 6.2 per cent to 1,304.72bn tonnes per kilometre. The growth was 10.9 per cent lower than that in the same period last year.

Ports in China posted an 11.2 per cent increase in cargo throughput to 1.61bn tonnes. The growth was 4.1 per cent higher year-on-year.
