Chenglingji offers bonded warehousing

15 May 2013
The newly opened bonded warehousing facility in Chenglingji terminal, part of Yueyang port in Hunan province, is already benefiting local businesses involved in foreign trade, according to a story in China Water Transport.

Huachang Cotton and Linen Co imports 50,000 tons of cotton from India each year. The company used to clear customs in Shanghai, while leaving the imports in the bonded warehouse there until needed. Now, imports are stored close to its Chenglingji facility. It costs the company Rmb1.5 per ton per day for the bonded warehousing facility in Shanghai, while the home facility costs only Rmb0.60 per ton, giving it a saving of more than Rmb500,000 a year.

According to He Hong, head of Yueyang Customs, part of Wuhan Customs, in charge of the Chenglingji facility, Chenglingji container terminal has been approved as a designated terminal for frozen meat imports. He believes that this development, together with the new bonded warehousing facility, will lead to an increase of at least 40,000 TEU each year.

Chen Shulin, deputy general manager of the container terminal, said that it aims to increase container throughput to 200,000 TEU this year. By 2025, the terminal will have an annual capacity of 800,000 TEU.

In 2012, Chenglingji reported a total throughput of 160,000 TEU, nearly six time that of the previous year.
