Wuhan identifies area for ecological protection

22 May 2013
The State Land Commission of Wuhan government announced on 22 May that 1,814 sq km of its urban centre, about 21 per cent of the city’s total area, has been ring-fenced for ecological protection. This means only projects related to infrastructure, eco-promoting agriculture, parks and tourism will be allowed. Existing industrial projects and supporting warehouse facilities will be moved out of the area in due course.

According to the government blueprint, residential property projects will be allowed to stay if they have no adverse impact on the ecology. Other projects will be urged to change and renovate or move out completely within an unspecified time period. Projects within the protected area that have been approved but have not yet started construction will have to reach the standard of low energy consumption and low environment impact before they can start.
