Zhangjiagang develops as car export base

29 May 2013
The Yangtze port of Zhangjiagang in Jiangsu province has processed auto exports worth around US$20m so far this year, according to statistics from the city’s entry-exit inspection and quarantine bureau.

The port has exported 3,257 cars made by the likes of Chery and JAC (Jianghuai Automobile) to South American countries such as Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay since the beginning of this year.

Local officials say infrastructure and berth conditions in Zhangjiagang have improved significantly, and clearance procedures have been made more convenient for exporting companies.

Soon, another batch of 810 JAC cars is expected to arrive at Zhangjiagang for export to Brazil on Ro-Ro vessels.

Zhangjiagang also exported 1.37m auto tyres worth US$61m in the first quarter of this year.

In March, the city’s first digital warehouse for tyre exports was established in Zhangjiagang port’s bonded area, greatly reducing logistics costs and enhancing efficiency.

Toyo Tire (Zhangjiagang), the owner of the warehouse, alone exported 200,000 tyres worth US$11.8m in the first quarter.
