Water levels fall in Three Gorges reservoir

5 June 2013
With the flood season nearing, the Three Gorges reservoir is speeding up water discharge to the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, resulting in falling water levels upstream. For example, the water level in the Wanzhou section of the river in Chongqing municipality is expected to fall below 146.5 metres on 10 June.

Marine departments in Chongqing have taken various measures to guarantee the safety of passing ships. Pontoons in the area have been moved towards the middle of the river due to the falling water levels and patrol boats have been despatched to promote safety.
