Landmark for water diversion project

12 June 2013
Winds reaching gale force 8 to severe gale force 9 in the Yangtze mouth area caused 12 vessels to issue distress calls on the evening of 7 June. By 1am on 8 June, seven out of them had sunk and 55 out of 56 crew members involved were rescued, leaving one missing, presumed dead.

Vessels sailing in Taihu Lake in Suzhou started to experience gale force 8 winds at 9am on 7 June. The local MSA decided to suspend shipping completely, but 21 vessels that had already entered the lake when the suspension was announced got caught in the storm. Eight of them sank and the 18 crew members involved were all rescued, according to China Water Transport newspaper.
