Luzhou signs agreement to develop shipping

19 June 2013
Luzhou government in Sichuan province has signed a strategic agreement with the Yangtze River Administration to speed up the development of shipping, according to China Water Transport News.

The administration has agreed to support Luzhou for shipping containers, oversize cargo, coal and petrochemical products by speeding up infrastructure investment in the upper reaches of the Yangtze. Infrastructure projects include dredging and deploying sufficient number of buoys and channel markers. Both parties agreed to support the other in helping set up integrated information platforms for shipping.

Due to low water levels caused by the storing and releasing cycles of the dams located both upstream and downstream, the Luzhou stretch of the Yangtze has been experiencing longer periods of shipping suspension in recent years.
