Wider powers for Maanshan Port Authority

26 June 2013
Maanshan Port Authority has been given new powers to manage the city’s shorelines, according to a recent government circular. The shoreline of the Yangtze trunkline under its remit has nearly doubled from 52.27km to 93.87km, while the shoreline on its tributaries has more than doubled from 98.1km to 206.9km. The local government wants to consolidate ownership of the shoreline and give priority to the construction of common-user terminals, according to the circular.

This is in line with plans of Anhui provincial government to develop shipping to help reduce the logistics costs for the increasing number of companies looking to relocate to the interior. The provincial government has already committed to spending Rmb15bn on major dredging projects so that 50,000 dwt vessels can sail to Tongling all year round. Currently, 10,000 dwt vessels can reach Tongling on tide.
