Wuhan: 70% of public vehicles to use clean/new fuel by 2017

17 July 2013
Wuhan Development and Reform Commission has set a target for developing clean fuel and new energy in the public transport sector. It said that, annually, over the next five years from 2013, the government will commit to purchasing or renovating 1,000 buses using clean fuel and new energy. By 2017, 70 per cent of all public sector vehicles including buses and taxis will have clean and new fuel.

This is part of the city government’s ambitious plan to develop public transport. Setting aside Rmb110bn for the next five years, the commission said in its development blueprint that the city’s building programme of the metro and public transport system will be the key component of a comprehensive system complemented by taxis and ferries.

The city is divided into three parts by the Yangtze and its largest tributary, the Han River.
