Liuzhou expands port capacity

16 October 2013
The river port of Liuzhou in Guangxi province is expanding its capacity to 15m tonnes by 2015, taking advantage of the central government’s plan to develop the Xijiang River in southwestern China, reported Xinhua.

Liuzhou city has accelerated its waterway traffic development since 2009. It has completed plans for five new port areas, having undertaken a dredging project in the navigational channel of the Liujiang River in 2011.

The article claimed that Liuzhou’s upgraded port facilities will realise savings of more than Rmb1bn for local manufacturers.

Liuzhou is an important commercial city in central Guanxi, specialising in automobiles, iron and steel, building materials and agricultural products.
