Wuhan launches DG rail service

20 November 2013
A special rail service designed to transport dangerous goods for Sinopec’s 800,000-ton ethylene project in Wuhan was launched on 17 November. A large trailer pulling 12 tankers carrying 576 tons of benzene departed the No.6 gate of the ethylene plant and about an hour later arrived at Xindian where the tankers were loaded onto the national rail network and headed for Yueyang Petrochemical.

According to officials from Wuhan Chemical Park, the dedicated cargo line opened for business on 15 October. By 6 November, the railway authorities approved its use for transporting dangerous cargo. Currently, the types of dangerous cargo allowed on the rail service are benzene, toluene, xylene, light fuel oil and liquefied petroleum gas.

Officials are confident that the new rail service will help bring down transport costs and boost the competitiveness of ethylene made in Wuhan.
