Truck freight traffic up 11.2% Jan-Oct

27 November 2013
Ministry of Transport data show that China’s truck freight traffic increased 11.2 per cent year-on-year to 29.1bn tonnes in the first 10 months of this year. Road freight turnover volume in the period grew 12.4 per cent to 5,431.9bn tonnes per kilometre.

The country’s first heavy-haul expressway has opened in Inner Mongolia autonomous region. The 265km road linking the coal-rich Jungar Banner with Xinghe county was opened to traffic on 21 November.

It can be used by trucks with a load of up to 100 tonnes and it is expected to carry 150m tonnes of traffic annually.

Inner Mongolia, in north China, is one of the nation’s biggest coal production bases, with an output of 1bn tonnes in 2012.
