Yangtze MSA sets up DG emergency response network

4 December 2013
Yangtze Maritime Safety Authorities has ramped up its dangerous cargo emergency response capability by setting up a series of equipment warehouses in Wanzhou (Chongqing), Wuhan (Hubei), Jiujiang (Jiangxi) and Wuhu (Anhui), according to official reports from the Yangtze River Administration. All Class One dangerous goods, such as explosives and inflammables, will be escorted by MSA patrols from the point of departure all the way to the point of destination.

Yangtze MSA has also compiled full guidelines for handling emergencies involving dangerous cargo, from reporting to on-site handling of major and minor collisions, leakages and other emergency scenarios. The frequency of all maritime officials receiving special DG training has been increased and mock exercises have been run several times with the Yangtze Police fire brigade, the terminals and some clear-up organisations, followed by detailed assessment. These measures have been taken to improve procedures in dealing with emergency cases involving dangerous cargo.
