Nantong doubles copper concentrate imports in 2013

8 January 2014
Copper concentrate imports into the Yangtze River port of Nantong in Jiangsu province totalled 2.109m tonnes in 2013, up 98 per cent on 2012, according to a Xinhua report citing data from Nantong Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau.

Local sources said the upturn in imports was mainly supported by higher treatment and refining charges for Chinese smelters in 2013. These fees, charged to a miner for converting the concentrates into refined copper, are a key source of revenue for smelters.

Nantong is one of China’s leading ports for copper concentrate imports.
