Cargo train links east China with central Asia

22 January 2014
Services began on 20 January of a cargo train linking east China with five central Asian countries.

The train will travel 4,600km from Yiwu city in Zhejiang province, pass through Alataw Pass in northwest China’s Xinjiang autonomous region and arrive in the city of Almaty in Kazakhstan. The line will then branch off to serve cities in Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan.

The longest route will stretch 10,000km and take six days to complete the journey.

The first cargo trains from Yiwu to Alataw Pass and Khorgos in Xinjiang began operation in April last year.
