Taizhou discovers infectious bacteria in containers

19 February 2014
Inspectors from Jiangsu Taizhou Inspection and Quarantine Bureau have discovered the first case of the acinetobacter Iwoffii bacterium from a container loaded with dried shrimps from Indonesia. In the same container, they also discovered another bacterium, klebsiella oxytoca, which they had previously found in 549 dried shrimp containers reaching Taizhou in 2013. Now, all such containers are opened for inspection.

Acinetobacter Iwoffii is a potential opportunistic pathogen in patients with impaired immune systems, and it has been identified as a cause of nosocomial infections such as septicaemia, pneumonia, meningitis, urinary tract infections, and skin and wound infections.
