Construction has started on China’s first timber reserves base on the border between China and Russia, according to SinoShip News.
The Rmb2bn project, invested by China Forestry Group Corporation, will occupy 335,000 sq metres and will include centres for timber processing, spot trading, logistics and distribution.
About half of all the timber consumed in China is imported. Nine ports in China will be chosen to establish an import timber trading network, including Tianjin, Zhangjiagang, Taicang and Shenzhen.
