Zhangjiagang receives first batch of Icelandic sea cucumber

11 June 2014
The port of Zhangjiagang has received its first-ever imports of sea cucumber from Iceland, according to China Water Transport News. The batch of 23.5 tons of sea cucumber was destined for domestic consumption. Zhangjiagang is the largest port in Jiangsu for handling frozen food, including meat and aquatic products, accounting for 70 per cent of the provincial total.

Chen Fei, head of Animal Inspection and Quarantine Department of Zhangjiagang Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, confirmed on 11 June that all the documentation including veterinary approval and certification of production conditions at origin had been checked and that random testing for micro-organisms, chemicals and heavy metals had been undertaken before the batch was granted an inspection and quarantine certificate.
