Wuhan to launch Southeast Asia container services by end July

9 July 2014
Wuhan New Port Authorities announced on 8 July that two new container services will be launched by the end of July, linking Wuhan with Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. The local government has vowed to support the new services by providing more than Rmb11m each year over the next three years to participating service providers.

Service providers are required to sail from Wuhan to Shanghai Waigaoqiao before reaching Ho Chi Minh within 11 days and Bangkok within 14 days. The return journey will take slightly longer, 19 days from Bangkok to Wuhan and 15 days from Ho Chi Minh to Wuhan. Services will operate twice a week.

The four Southeast Asian countries as a group have become Wuhan’s second largest trade partner in recent years. In 2013, exports to Vietnam and Thailand, for example, reached US$409m and US$327m, respectively. Growth of exports to Vietnam alone has been doubling annually over the past three years.
