Hubei to consolidate Yangtze resources

3 September 2014
The provincial government of Hubei has recently finalised a plan to consolidate its resources along the Yangtze River, according to a story published in China Water Transport newspaper.

The plan covers five cities in the province along the Yangtze – Wuhan, Huangshi, Ezhou, Huanggang and Xianning. The intention of the consolidation is to promote a co-ordinated approach to the planning of the use of the 700km-long shorelines within these cities, the planning of shipping capabilities, the size of terminals and their adjacent logistics parks. Through a consolidation of resources, Hubei hopes that, within three to five years, the area will become the provincial ‘bedrock’ for rapid industrialisation and economic development.

As part of this process, the provincial government aims to privatise a number of port- and shipping-related state-owned companies and allow them to develop into the largest and most influential corporations along the entire Yangtze.
