Tax rebate scheme extended to more Yangtze ports

10 September 2014
Since 1 September, qualified exporters have been able to receive tax rebates at a number of Yangtze port cities once their cargo departs from the port and is shipped abroad via Yangshan terminal in Shanghai.

The move comes after China expanded a departure port tax refund pilot programme initiated in 2012 at the ports of Qingdao and Wuhan.

The departure port locations on the Yangtze are Zhujiaqiao in Wuhu, Longtan in Nanjing, Taicang in Suzhou, Chengxi in Jiujiang, Yangluo in Wuhan and Chenglingji in Yueyang, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance, General Administration of Customs and State Administration of Taxation.

The scheme is designed to help reduce exporters’ costs and shorten the tax refund period. “Once the programme is carried out, exporters can get tax reimbursements right here,” said an official in Wuhu. “The time for them to complete the formalities will be cut by 15-20 days.”

In a related development, Zhujiaqiao said it will increase the number of Yangshan-bound cargo liner services from the current five times a week to a daily basis, according to a source with Anhui Wanjiang Logistics Co.
