DG transport rules tighten again

5 November 2014
The Ministry of Transport issued a new directive at the end of October, stating that new applications for dangerous goods road transport companies will not be approved until the end of 2015. By 1 January, liquid tanker trucks without emergency cut-off facilities will not pass annual safety tests and will therefore be taken off the road.

From now until the end of 2017, applications for single-vessel businesses shipping oil and chemicals will not be considered. By 1 January 2016, single hull chemical tankers and oil tankers less than 600 dwt will not be allowed to enter the Yangtze River or any other inland waterway. The standardisation of DG vessels will reach 70 per cent.

DG transport companies will not be allowed to expand their business scope or increase their capacity if it does not reach the required safety standards. Individual drivers or captains will get penalties for any violations of safety. When the penalty total reaches 12 points, the individual will not be granted a licence to operate for three years.
