Wuhan to develop Wuhan-Xinjiang-Europe rail service

3 December 2014
More than 250 people representing logistics providers from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Switzerland and other countries gathered in Wuhan on 2 December to discuss cooperation on developing regular rail services from: Wuhan to Poland, the Czech Republic and Central Asia via Alashankou in Xinjiang autonomous region; Wuhan to Russia via Manchuria; and Wuhan to Central Asia via Huoerguosi in Xinjiang.

Services started trial operations in October 2012 with heavy government subsidies and went into commercial operation in April. Until now, 22 services have operated, roughly about one a week, and they carried 1,782 TEU, containing goods worth a total of US$200m.

According to Wang Lijun, chairman of the service provider Wuhan-Europe International Logistics, the company plans to run four to five services a week from 2015.
