Yangtze River Delta

The Yangtze River Delta (YRD) refers to the nearly 350km stretch of the Yangtze trunkline and its tributaries before it flows into the sea. It covers three highly important economic regions: Shanghai municipality and Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. This small section of river, compared with the Yangtze’s entire navigable length of 2,838km, accounts for nearly two-thirds of all traffic volume on the Yangtze. Sometimes known as China’s Golden Triangle, the delta region is the most vibrant of the Chinese economy. More than 400 of the world's top 500 manufacturing companies have production facilities here, and many have also set up regional headquarters and R&D and sourcing centres. Shanghai and Ningbo are the world’s second and 11th largest container ports respectively, while the throughput in Nanjing and Taicang (part of Suzhou port) each exceeded 1m teu in 2007. The YRD logistics market, reportedly growing at an average annual rate of 30 per cent, offers enormous opportunities for industry participants, domestic and foreign alike.
