Bridges

A major programme of bridge construction is underway along the Yangtze. The focus in increasingly on points in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze, and in Chongqing and Wuhan in particular. In contrast to the interior, transport infrastructure in the lower reaches of the river is already quite well established. Jiangsu province has one of the highest density road networks in the country. The particular focus now in Jiangsu is to build bridges that will eradicate bottlenecks, speed up journey times and help reduce the gap in prosperity between the wealthier southern part of the province and the north.
